FAQ
Dumpster rental questions, answered
Everything customers ask us before they book a roll-off in Orange County.
How much does a dumpster rental cost in Orange County?
Friendly Dumpsters pricing starts at $340 for a 10 yard trash dumpster, $650 for a 10 yard heavy-debris lowboy, $380 for a 15 yard, $450 for a 20 yard, $850 for a 30 yard and $950 for a 40 yard. Each price includes delivery, pickup and a set tonnage allowance; overweight tonnage and prohibited items are billed separately.
What size dumpster do I need?
For concrete, dirt, tile or roofing use a 10 yard lowboy (from $650) or a 15 yard lowboy, because heavy material reaches the weight limit before it fills the box. For a whole-home cleanout or multi-room remodel use a 20 yard. For construction and commercial volume use a 30 or 40 yard.
What is a lowboy dumpster?
A lowboy is a roll-off container with shorter side walls, usually 3.5 to 4.5 feet tall. The low walls let you walk or wheelbarrow heavy debris in instead of lifting it overhead, which is why lowboys are used for concrete, dirt and roofing work.
Do you deliver to my city?
We service all of Orange County, California, from three yards: Fullerton for North County, Fountain Valley for central and coastal cities, and Rancho Santa Margarita for South County. That covers Anaheim, Irvine, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach and every city in between.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
Standard rentals run several days on site. Let us know your schedule when you book and we will match the drop-off and pickup to your project; extensions and swap-outs are available.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We place boards under the rails on request to protect concrete, pavers and asphalt. Tell the driver where you want the container and which way the doors should face before delivery.
What can I put in a dumpster?
Household junk, furniture, construction and demolition debris, yard waste, roofing, concrete and dirt are all accepted. Hazardous waste, liquid paint, tires, batteries, refrigerant appliances and e-waste are not.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Orange County?
Not on private property. A container on your own driveway or a commercial lot needs no permit. If it must sit on a public street, your city issues an encroachment permit — Fullerton, Anaheim, Irvine and Mission Viejo all handle these through their public works department.
How much space does the delivery truck need?
Plan on about 60 feet of straight clearance to set the box down and roughly 23 feet of overhead clearance. Move cars, trash bins and low branches before the driver arrives.
How full can I load the dumpster?
Level with the top rail. California law prohibits hauling a load above the rails, and an overfilled box has to be re-loaded before the truck can leave.
Can I put a mattress or furniture in the dumpster?
Yes. Mattresses, couches, tables and shelving all go in. Refrigerant appliances, televisions and other e-waste do not.
How do I book a dumpster?
Book online in about a minute — name, phone, email, delivery address, size and your drop-off and pickup dates — or call us and we will set it up over the phone.
Are you open on weekends?
Yes. Both Orange County yards operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Where are you located?
Friendly Dumpsters runs three Orange County yards: 2742 W Orangethorpe Ave, Fullerton, CA 92833; 30212 Tomas, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688; 10542 Bechler River Ave, Fountain Valley, CA 92708.
What size dumpster do contractors use most?
The 20 yard roll-off at $450 is the default on residential jobsites because it holds a full remodel and still fits a driveway. Crews on new construction or full demolition usually move up to a 30 yard at $850 or a 40 yard at $950.
Can you swap a full container the same week?
Yes. Call or text when the box is full and we schedule a swap-out — an empty container dropped as the loaded one leaves — so the crew is never waiting on a truck.
Can I mix concrete into a construction dumpster?
Keep concrete, dirt, brick and asphalt in a separate lowboy. Heavy inert material hits the legal haul weight long before the box is full, so mixing it into a 30 or 40 yard is what triggers overweight charges.
Why is a 10 yard lowboy $650 when a 10 yard trash bin is $340?
They are different containers. The lowboy is reinforced and carries a far higher tonnage allowance because concrete and dirt weigh several times more per cubic yard than household junk, and disposal is billed by the ton.
Can I fill a lowboy all the way to the top?
Usually not with dense material. Most concrete and dirt loads reach the legal weight limit around half to two-thirds full. Load level with the rails at most and stop when the driver's fill line is reached.
Do you take dirt and concrete in the same load?
Keep them separate when you can. A clean single-material load goes to a recycler at a lower rate; mixed inert loads are charged as mixed debris.
What size dumpster do I need for a roof tear-off?
As a rough guide, a 15 yard lowboy handles roughly 20 to 25 squares of asphalt shingles. Concrete or clay tile weighs two to three times more, so plan on a smaller volume per box or a second haul.
Can the dumpster sit next to the house?
Yes. Tell us which side of the roof you are tearing off and the driver sets the container beside the eave, with boards under the rails to protect the driveway.
Can I mix roofing with general trash?
Keep the tear-off clean. Roofing goes to a different processing stream than mixed debris, and a clean load keeps disposal cost predictable.
What size dumpster for a whole-house cleanout?
A two-bedroom home usually clears into a 15 yard. A three or four bedroom house with a full garage is a 20 yard, and heavy accumulation may need a swap-out partway through.
Can the dumpster stay on the driveway for a week?
Yes. Tell us the drop-off and pickup dates when you book and we schedule the haul around your timeline; extensions are available if the cleanout runs long.
What do I do with paint, electronics and appliances?
Those go to an Orange County household hazardous waste or e-waste collection center rather than into the container. Set them aside as you sort and we will point you to the closest drop-off.
Is renting a dumpster cheaper than a junk removal service?
For anything beyond a truckload it usually is. A 10 yard container is a flat $340 including delivery, pickup and a tonnage allowance, while item-by-item pickup is priced by volume on the truck.
Will a dumpster fit in my driveway?
A 10 or 15 yard fits a standard two-car Orange County driveway. The truck needs about 60 feet of straight clearance and roughly 23 feet of overhead room to set the box down.
How fast can you deliver?
We run all three yards seven days a week. Call and we will give you the earliest window we can hold for your address.
Do you handle recurring swaps for a long project?
Yes. We schedule swap-outs for the duration of a build or turnover so an empty container arrives as the full one leaves.
Can you deliver to a commercial lot after hours?
All three yards operate around the clock. Tell us the access window, gate code and where the box goes and we will plan the delivery around your tenants.
Do you invoice property management companies?
Call the office and we will set up billing that matches how your company handles vendor invoices.
Should green waste and dirt go in the same box?
Keep them separate whenever the job allows. Clean green waste is recycled at a lower rate, and adding soil turns the whole load into heavy mixed debris.
Can you take tree stumps?
Small stumps generally yes; large trunks and root balls need a heads-up so we can size the box and confirm the disposal site will accept them.
What size for a full backyard makeover?
A typical Orange County backyard demo — turf, planters, a small patio — fits a 15 yard for green material plus a lowboy for the hardscape.
Can I really get a dumpster today?
Often, yes — availability depends on the size, the city and how the day's routes are already running. Call and we will tell you honestly what window we can hold.
What do you need from me to deliver fast?
The delivery address, the material going in, where the container should sit and a phone number the driver can reach. That is enough to dispatch.
Do you deliver on weekends?
Yes. All three yards run seven days a week.
Still not sure which box you need?
Tell us what you are throwing away and we will size it for you.
