20 vs 30 yard dumpster: which one do you need?

Rent the 20 yard when the container sits on a residential driveway and you can toss debris over a 4.5 ft wall. Step up to the 30 yard when the debris is bulky, the site is commercial or large, and walking material in over high walls is not a problem.

Side by side

The practical differences between the two.

Choose the 20 yard for

Whole-home cleanouts, multi-room remodels, deck or fence removal, move-outs and roof tear-offs on a typical single-family home. It is the most-booked size in Orange County for a reason: capacity without losing driveway access or easy loading.

Choose the 30 yard for

New construction, larger demolition, commercial cleanouts and multi-unit turnovers, where you are producing framing lumber, siding, drywall and mixed construction debris continuously and a second haul would cost more than the bigger box.

The 30 yard needs about 60 feet of straight clearance to set down, which is routine on commercial lots and larger residential parcels.

The heavy-debris exception

If the load is concrete, dirt, tile or roofing, neither of these is the answer. Dense material reaches legal haul weight long before it fills a 20 or 30 yard box, so it belongs in a 10 yard lowboy at $650 or a 15 yard lowboy at $380.

When you are still torn

If the debris is light and bulky, size up — one haul beats two. If the debris is dense, stay small and plan a swap-out; we pull the full container and set an empty one on the same visit anywhere in Orange County.
